Marina FAQs

Why is the marina called Port of Egypt?

The name Port of Egypt Marine honors a reference to the sizable sandbar south of the marina.

According to local lore, a schoolteacher in the early 1900s inspired students to think about faraway places when he said the sandbar resembled a desert. That teacher was the father of one of the property's former owners, and his son called the business Port of Egypt Marine.

When the Lieblein brothers purchased the fishing station in 1946, it was called Captain Reiter’s and they decided to reinstate the Port of Egypt moniker.
