Port of Egypt Marine has been owned and operated by the Lieblein family since William Lieblein Sr., and his brothers Herb and Herman, discovered the idyllic waterfront location in the 1940s. As youngsters, William’s children -- Bill Lieblein (CEO), Peter Lieblein (retired). Marlene Westhus (Pool and Grounds Manager) and Elisa Ruroede (President until she passed away in 2014) -- learned about fishing and boating on the East End while helping others enjoy the local waters. Playing by the docks and working at the family business was a way of life that continues today with the third generation of Lieblein family.
From its early days as a1940s fishing station to a 21st century award-winning and full-service marina with hotel and fine dining restaurant, Port of Egypt Marine has served the changing needs of visiting boaters and vacationers to the North Fork on the East End of Long Island, New York. The eight-acre waterfront property with expansive views of Southold Bay, including bird sanctuary, has full services for visitors arriving by boat or ground transport.
The name Port of Egypt honors a reference to the property’s adjacent and sizeable sand bar. In the early 1900s, it was said to resemble a desert by a local schoolteacher inspiring students of places afar. That teacher was the father of one of the property’s past owners, Philip Dickinson, who in 1932 operated a boat rental station under the name. The Lieblein family reinstated the moniker in 1946 when they took over what had become Captain Reiter’s fishing station and branded the property Port of Egypt Marine.
In 1960, the company began selling the prestigious brand of Grady-White boats. It became one of the top-selling dealers nationally and been acknowledged annually for leadership in customer service and satisfaction. In 1998, it was the first, and has been the only, Grady-White dealer, among hundreds in the country, to garner both the top sales and customer service awards. It has received many number one kudos and celebrated 50 years as a dealership in 2010. Today, the service department’s technicians continue to be re-certified yearly and boat-handling lessons are offered with every sale. Port of Egypt Marine is also a Yamaha flagship dealer and an authorized service dealer of Volvo-Penta and MerCruiser engines.
